What happens when a patient, with cataract comes to Rotary
Narayana Nethralaya? |
|
As described above, all patients with cataract have a
detailed eye examination which
may take 2-3 hours. If surgery
is decided upon, further scanning tests called
DBR will be performed to
measure the eye and calculate
the power of the IOL which will
provide the best vision. |
|
|
|
All patients undergoing
Cataract Surgery have a
physician’s examination including basic laboratory
investigations to assess their fitness to undergo surgery
under local or general anaesthesia.
This usually takes 1-2 days. |
|
|
|
The patient is admitted in the hospital
one day prior or on the day of cataract surgery
and discharged the day after the
surgery. Some patients with good general health opt
for same day (or ambulatory) surgery.
This means that the patient gets admitted on the day of the
surgery and returns home a few hours after surgery on the
same day itself. |
|
|
|
Post-operative examinations are
usually scheduled 3-4 days
after the surgery. A 10 to 12 day
stay in Kolkata is usually more than sufficient for
out-station patients. The patient can then return to the
hospital for his final examination after 10-14 days (in the case of
phacoemulsification) or after
6 weeks (in the case of ECCE)
for a final examination and prescription of glasses. |
