Diabetes: A Disorder, Not a Disease


Identifying patients with Diabetes

 

Symptoms :-


  • Excessive thirst

  • Excessive hunger

  • Frequent urination

  • Tiredness

  • Loss of weight

  • Pain in legs & all over the body.

  • Recurrent boils

  • Recurrent urinary tract infection.

Sometimes diabetic complications can be the :-


  • Blurred vision (diabetic retinopathy)

  • Protein leakage from kidney (Diabetic Nephropathy)

  • Surgery- foot ulcers

  • Decreased sensation (Diabetic Neuropathy)

  • Recurrent shine of infection and fungal infection

Prevention and/or delay of Diabetes complications


  • Balanced diet

  • Regular Physical Activity

  • Medications when appropriate

  • Timely access to health care services

  • No tobacco

  • No alcohol

  • Adherence to Diabetologist

Diabetes can affect eyes, heart, kidneys, and nerves. Hence all diabetic patients should do some investigations periodically to know the complication of DM at least once the year (like simple blood & urine test, blood test for liver enzymes, blood & urine test for kidney function). All diabetic patients have to undergo retinal examination and ECG at least once in a year.
